The Story
An original antique Naga daybed coffee table. Originally crafted over a century ago in Nagaland, Northeast India, this antique Naga daybed has been repurposed as a striking low coffee table—rich in character, history, and material presence.
Hand-carved from solid timber, the table is entirely formed from a single substantial slab, raised on thick cylindrical legs that give the piece its grounded, sculptural quality. Traditionally, pieces such as this would have been used within village homes and communal morungs as places of rest, gathering, and daily life. Over time, the surface has softened naturally through use, creating a richly weathered patina that cannot be replicated.
Its organic shape and irregular edges bring a sense of quiet informality to a space. The timber feels tactile and warm, with visible grain, age marks, and natural variations that speak to its authenticity rather than detract from it. Nothing about the piece feels manufactured or overly refined. That is precisely its appeal.
Now functioning beautifully as a low coffee table, it lends itself particularly well to relaxed, layered interiors - whether paired with contemporary seating, rustic materials, or a more organic wabi-sabi aesthetic. The proportions are generous without feeling heavy, while the aged dark wood adds depth and balance within a room.
Entirely one of a kind, this is a piece chosen not simply for function, but for atmosphere, texture, and permanence.
